The first winter blast of the new year for Western Washington didn’t keep the wrestlers away from the first annual Bad Draw Wrestling Club Folkstyle Winter Showdown this past weekend at Monroe High School. As the snow blanketed the parking lot outside, the mats inside were being pounded by over two hundred wrestlers representing 30 different teams both Saturday and Sunday.

The Pin City Wrestling Club out of Lake Stevens took the team title on Saturday scoring an overall 20 team points. Following were Team Scorpion with 18 points, NWWC out of Bremerton with 16 points, Bad Draw Wrestling Club with 15 points and the Tri Cities Wrestling Club took 5th place with 13 points.

On Sunday, at the Bad Draw hosted WWKWL Novice League Tournament, the team title went to the JBLM Wrestling Club out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord who scored a total of 25 team points. JBLM was followed closely behind by the Bad Draw Wrestling Club who took second place with a team total of 24 points. The Arlington Wrestling Club took 3rd with 22 points, the Sultan Turks Youth Wrestling Club came in fourth with 22 points and Team Scorpion out of Stanwood took fifth with 19 team points overall.

The weekend long tournament was a huge success by all accounts. Bad Draw Wrestling Club President and Winter Showdown Tournament Director Todd Elledge made the following comments:

“The tournament was very exciting to watch with wrestlers attending from all four corners of the state. It was a battle to the end to see who would come out on top and take home the coveted "Team Points Championship."“I don't want to pat ourselves on the back too much but this tournament ran well from beginning to end on both days. We had all the bases covered; great food, terrific competition, an organized positive atmosphere, impressive awards with lots of fun and excitement for all.”“Our goal is to make our tournaments some of the few "Must Attend" youth tournaments in the state of Washington. We are going to work hard to grow the Showdown tournaments into two of the largest youth tournaments in the state.”“Bad Draw Wrestling Club will be hosting a 3-style tournament March 30, 31, and April 1st 2012 at Glacier Peak high school. We will be wrestling Greco Roman on Friday, Freestyle on Saturday and Folkstyle on Sunday. My personal goal is to see 1000 participants over those three days. I think as the word starts to spread about the quality of our tournaments we will start to see some very large numbers of competitors coming through the doors and that is exciting for us. I know our club parents will come through in spades to help make sure our 3-style tournament is the best tournament of the 2012 Freestyle/Greco Roman season.”
